Novabook: Startup Accounting That Actually Works

What does your organisation do? What is one unique thing people should know about your organisation that is not on your website?
We were founded by two exited founders who experienced firsthand how broken startup accounting can be. After years of frustration, they built the solution they wish they'd had. Backed by chartered accountants, startup experts, and software engineers, we take admin off your plate so you can save time, reduce costs, and focus on growth.

Why did you choose to build in Oxfordshire? What is your connection to Oxford/Oxfordshire?
We have a strong and longstanding connection to Oxfordshire. Both of our co-founders met at the University of Oxford, which kickstarted their founder journey.
We remain actively involved in the Oxford ecosystem because it is a thriving community of exceptional founders and startups working at the forefront of science, technology, and innovation. As a company built by founders for founders, supporting and contributing to the Oxfordshire startup community is a natural extension of our mission to help founders grow and succeed.

What big problem are you trying to solve, and why does it matter?
We are solving a long-standing problem in UK accounting that consistently holds founders back. Poor-quality, unresponsive accounting has cost founders time and money, created unnecessary risk, and undermined otherwise strong businesses. When accounting fails, founders are forced to spend valuable time firefighting instead of building, slowing innovation and growth across the startup ecosystem.
We're fixing this by combining responsive, high-quality human accountants who work directly with our clients, a team of startup experts who have been in their shoes and understand startups inside and out, and an in-house software platform that automates admin, improves visibility, and removes the stress from managing startup finances.
How can you support — or be supported by — the Oxfordshire ecosystem?
Beyond accounting, we aim to actively support the Oxfordshire ecosystem through partnerships, events, and access to shared resources. We plan to host and participate in community events, workshops, and founder-led sessions that bring people together and encourage collaboration.
We can support founders by sharing practical knowledge and expertise from working closely with startups, and by helping connect founders to relevant capital, operators, and advisors across the ecosystem. In return, being part of the Oxfordshire ecosystem allows us to learn from cutting-edge companies, deepen our understanding of founder challenges, and build meaningful partnerships that strengthen the ecosystem as a whole.
